What you need to bring with you

Please bring:

ü your referral (unless other arrangements have been made)
ü other relevant letters or reports
ü scans
ü your health insurance details if applicable
ü Medicare or Veterans' Affairs number
ü if claiming your consultation from WorkCover, details of your WorkCover insurer and claim

You might like to complete our patient registration form before your appointment.  You can download a copy here.  You can bring it with you on the day of your appointment or you can fax it to us on 9427 1642.  Either way, filling it out before your appointment helps us give you the time you need.  If you are taking more than one or two medications on a regular basis, please bring a list of the drugs, dosage and frequency with you.  Your family doctor or your pharmacist may be able to supply you with a printout or you might like to write them down yourself.

A referral from a general practitioner is valid for twelve months, unless specifically stated as an "indefinite referral". A referral from another specialist to Dr Dohrmann will only be current for three months from the date of the first visit. You may need to obtain a new referral after three months, if you will need further consultations or treatment from Dr Dohrmann.

What happens after your first consultation?

Dr Dohrmann will discuss investigations and treatment options with you fully before recommending treatment.  He operates only at Epworth Hospital in Richmond.

Investigations such as MRI or CT scans, or standard x-rays are usually booked at Epworth or, where appropriate, close to your home.

You will usually need to attend a further consultation or two to discuss the details of any proposed surgery as well as to discuss scheduling and costs.

If you need surgery

All arrangements and bookings for surgery will be made by our secretarial staff, so please feel free to discuss your preferences and/or concerns. Forms and paperwork will be forwarded to you once a surgical date has been confirmed. Dr Dohrmann has several anaesthetists that he works with on a regular basis, and we can provide the name of the anaesthetist allocated on your day of surgery in advance, if required.

A post operative appointment will be made for you before you are discharged from hospital.

Dr Dohrmann may involve other specialists during the course of your care.  We will endeavour to provide you with their details in advance.  Please note that any financial arrangement for their treatment is separate from Dr Dohrmann’s accounts.
