STATEMENT OF EXPERTISE FOR MEDICOLEGAL PURPOSES

Mr Dohrmann has been in practice has a neurosurgeon since 1986.  He has held senior appointments at the Alfred Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is Executive Medical Director of Epworth HealthCare and has been a member of the Research and Ethics Committee of Epworth Hospital. He is a former chairman of the Victorian Neuroscience Centre at Epworth.  His private practice is based at Epworth Richmond.  He is a member of the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria.

3.         Area of expertise

Mr Dohrmann has extensive experience in general neurosurgery, particularly in the area of spinal surgery. 

4.         Expertise to prepare reports

Mr Dohrmann has been an approved independent medical examiner since 1996.  His medicolegal work has included several hundred assessments for plaintiffs and defendants in both the personal injury and the medical litigation spheres.    He has completed the approved Fourth Edition Impairment Training Course conducted by Melbourne and Monash Universities, specifically having completed the core module, nervous system module and spine module.

He is a member of the Medico-Legal Society and of the Medico-Legal Section of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.  He has postgraduate qualifications in occupational and environmental health from Monash University.  He is a registered practitioner eligible to be appointed to Medical Panels and is regularly a member of such panels.
