Executive Medical Director, Epworth HealthCare
In 2002 Dr Dohrmann was appointed the inaugural Executive Medical Director at Melbourne’s Epworth Hospital. Epworth is one of the country’s largest private hospitals, with over 500 beds, a large emergency department and with advanced medical and surgical services.
Dr Dohrmann’s medical director appointment at Epworth is a clinically-based medical director position - where the medical staff requested that the hospital appoint a practising clinician to this leadership role. In commenting on the role Dr Dohrmann noted “The position has been well supported by the board and management at Epworth, but it has also been well supported by my clinical colleagues”.
The key responsibilities include the development of a modern clinical governance framework, as well as building Epworth into a teaching hospital for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in all the major disciplines. Dr Dohrmann has also been actively involved in the transformation of Epworth from a single campus institution (Epworth Hospital) to an expanding multi-campus institution (Epworth HealthCare) including Epworth Eastern, a new private hospital which opened in 2005, and Epworth Freemasons in East Melbourne. |
